Don't Smuggle Drugs Smuggle Gasoline

by Mike Coates

This past Saturday I was sitting in the usual long line up for $.99 litre gas at Costco in Bellingham Washington watching dozens of Canadians not only filling up their vehicle gas tanks but also filling up large Jerri cans for transport back to BC where gasoline in Metro Vancouver is currently selling for $1.44 litre.

Currently there are, to my knowledge, no laws or duties payable on gasoline purchased in the US and brought back to Canada. In fact you don't even have to declare gasoline purchases.

As someone once told me "you don't have to go to college to understand the principle of buy low and sell high." Obviously a lot of Canadians are putting this adage into practice and making a reasonable profits without breaking the law.

Too bad Canada was so far away from Europe, just think of the the money one could make buying low cost US gasoline and selling it to Europeans   If you are one who complains about the high price of gasoline check out what others in the world are paying. OMG!
