The Silver Bear Cafe

Big Brother is Watching You!

A friend recently sent me a link to a Youtube video titled The Silver Bear Cafe. The story is about a man who telephones his local restaurant to order a pizza, something we have all done dozens or hundreds of times in our lives.

I watched the video and  found it humourous, deleted it and went on with my life. However as the days went by I frequently found myself thinking of this video and the message it was trying to convey.

Namely that like a character out of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four novel, the man in this video, through technology, had become a victim of the state. A victim where every detail of his life was recorded and available to public scrutiny even when it came to ordering a pizza.

Perhaps the most frightening aspect was that this man no doubt volunteered much of this information to service providers, who, after all, were just trying to give the customer what he wanted.
