Have you ever tasted wine produced in the province of Ontario? If you have you must have tasted it while traveling in Ontario or smuggled a bottle back into British Columbia when the RCMP
had their backs turned.
Unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity of tasting Ontario produced wine because their wines are banned from importation and sale in BC. Banned because the Federal Government of Canada passed a law prohibiting the transportation of wine and other spirits across provincial borders.
In other words it is legal to import and consume wine from any country in the world into BC but illegal to consume wine made in our own country.
Just imagine how many new jobs would be created in Canada if this ridiculous law was repealed. Will the repeal of this law ever happen in my lifetime? I very much doubt it.

What a ridiculous law! We encourage trade internationally but can't even buy/ bring wine from another province within our own country!!!! What next????
Incidentally, we have had the opportunity to try many Ontario wines having moved from there recently. Ontario produces many lovely wines from the Niagara,Point Pelee and Prince Edward County areas.
Okanagan-Coquihalla Conservative MP Dan Albas today will introduce a private member's bill in the House of Commons seeking a personal use exemption to the 1928 prohibition era law making it illegal to transport alcohol between Canadian provinces. Bravo Mr Albas for your initiative and 21st century thinking.
It is most unfortunate that the entire law is not being repealed. It makes no sense for Christy Clark and Steven Harper to circle the globe beating the bushes for business when there are obviously business opportunities within Canada being ignored.
