Whom You Know is as Important as What You Know

by Mike Coates

Those seeking a meaningful career in difficult economic times have a better chance of gaining employment if they receive an introduction from someone

connected to the organization they are applying.

In the days prior to the internet, it was often a family member who provided the necessary introductions or recommendations to those responsible for hiring.  Today, professional social media sites such as Linkedin have taken these introductions to a new level that benefits both the prospective job seeker and the employer.

Linkedin with approximately 120M global subscribers provides both passive and active job seekers with a platform to showcase their job related skills, accomplishments, education, interests and contributions to society.

For employers, and human resource recruiters, Linkedin facilitates the search for prospective candidates both locally and globally.

Having a Linkedin subscription will not guarantee you a job but it will better your chance of finding someone whom can provide you with that all so important introduction. After all "whom you know is as important as what you know."
