Boundary Park Elementary School Receives a "C" Report Card

As a resident of Boundary Park, an upper middle class residential community located in South West Surrey, I was disappointed to discover that our neighbourhood Boundary Park Elementary school was given a

"c "grade on the Fraser Institutes 2011 survey of BC elementary schools.

However what was more disappointing than receiving an "c" rating was seeing the steady decline in student academic performance in the years leading up to this 2011 report.

There are no doubt a plethora of excuses being served up to the parents of the children who attend Boundary Park Elementary as to the reasons for the academic decline. Some excuses valid and others not.

However as a parent and educator I know that there really only one reason for poor student academic achievement that is best be described in  the following quote. "If the student is not learning it is because the teacher is not teaching."  And by teacher I mean, parents, teachers and residents of our Boundary Park community.

Students who have low academic standing in elementary school, will also have low academic standings in high school and, as a result, will have little chance of gaining acceptance to a post secondary institution. It is a prophecy that does not need to happen.
