Happy New Year

Feng Shui

Happy New Year!
A style that is becoming extremely popular in the decorating and interior design business is Feng Shui. What does Feng Shui mean?
Feng Shui is a technique used by the Chinese to decorate with energy. The words Feng Shui translates into the English words ‘wind – water’ and was used mainly to orientate buildings and structures in favorable positions. In 1960, Feng Shui was suppressed by the cultural revolution but has dramatically gained popularity ever since.
What does this mean for your home? The Feng Shui theory means that your home will have the best energy to support various activities. For example, a bedroom would need to have soft sensual energy where as an office would need an active vibrant energy. Ultimately, if you are going to use Feng Shui to decorate your home, your goals would be to have a loving, supportive, fun and happy home. (Isn’t this what we all want?)
Steps to a successful Feng Shui home:
D-clutter: This is the most important task in achieving Feng Shui. Cleaning out the old energy to replace it with new energy is an important step in this or any decorating process.
Once finished the d-cluttering part of the process make sure you have good natural light in your home by removing or re-arranging anything that blocks the natural light from coming in.
Step 1: Find your Bagau! This means finding your energy map or blueprint. The map includes where you want to have colour on your walls, good flow of furniture and art placement.

Step 2: Color! This is where you decide which colours you want to have in your home. Red for energy? Green and blue for calm and peaceful? Feng Shui uses fire, earth, water and wood to describe colour areas.
Fire – Red, Orange, Purple, Pink, and Rich Yellow
Earth – Light Yellow, Earth and sandy colours
Water — Blue and Black
Wood – Brown and Green

Step 3: Find good Feng Shui foundation pieces. These include fountains, lucky bamboo plants, a Buddha head, and Feng Shui art.

Step 4: Arrange your Feng Shui items. Arrange the foundation pieces in a way that gives you the best energy. The direction the item is facing also has a lot to do with the energy. If you’re wanting to find energy in love and marriage for example the southwest direction is strong area for love and marriage. (crazy!) Another example would be if you had a piece of art that is predominantly red. Feng Shui theories say that you should face the art south so it can complement the fiery energy of the south.
