According to a recent article by Ben Berkowitz in the Financial Post the occupation of New York's Lower Manhattan Zuccotti Park, began with a July 13 Tweet from a radical group
called Adbusters. At first nothing happened but as researchers discovered by September 16th, or 9 weeks later that 1 in 500 worldwide Tweets were using the #occupywallstreet hashtag. In other words from a single hashtag a protest circled the world and garnered millions of peoples attention. The implications of this phenomena cannot be overlooked.
