My father, a long time resident of Surrey's Boundary Park and a retired Vancouver Police Officer, told me that if you had to rely on the public to assist you in solving crimes, justice would never be served.
And as any competent defence lawyer knows, the worst witness to a crime is an "eye witness."
These sentiments may have been true prior to 2008. However with the introduction of social media, like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, combined with the rapid adoption of smart phones, eye witnesses to crime backed up with their photographs and video evidence are changing the way justice is served.
With the photographs of the suspected Vancouver Stanley Cup rioters now posted on the Vancouver Police Department's web site one is reminded of the lyrics to Kiss's song "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide"
I certainly hope that none of these suspected "upstanding" citizens live in Boundary Park.
