As a management intern at Sears Canada I can recall a senior executive telling me that to be successful merchant you had to learn how to sell "sizzle not steak."
In other words you had to learn how to differentiate your products and services from those of your competitors to offer a superior value proposition to your target market. It was easy to talk about but in practice making your products and services stand out from the crowd was a difficult undertaking.
In today's tough employment market learning how to market your "sizzle" is an important strategy to develop if your goal is to obtain meaningful employment. The days of sending in a paper resume to prospective employers are quickly coming to an end. Your written resume is quickly being replaced by online resumes interfaced with videos and powerpoint presentations. Your ability to market your "SIZZLE" will become a key component to getting that most important job. Mashable.com has a how-to article on creating online resumes that is worth reading. Remember it's all about you and your ability to show your sizzle.
