On Sunday September 15, a Surrey couple in their 70's died in fire in their home because of a non-working smoke alarm. This was a tragedy that need not have happened and could have easily been

prevented if the owners had replaced their smoke alarm(s) at least every 10 years and replaced the batteries every 6 months.

On November 22, 2012 I wrote an article titled "How Old Is Your Smoke Alarm?"  One can only hope that everyone who read my article took the necessary steps to investigate the condition and age of their smoke alarm(s) and had them replaced if warranted.
