A 20th Century Marketer's Lament

I came across an article written by Robert Flemming, President/CEO of the e-Marketing Association. The article's title "Social media has ruined marketing" caught my attention, because that is what a good headline should do. It also spurred my interest in reading about what an "old guy" schooled in 20th century marketing practices had to say about 21st century social media marketing.

The author laments about how easy marketing was in the good old days when marketers were smart; customers were dumb and  the 2 Martini lunch was the norm. Could this  explain why some companies  like, Kodak, Nortel, Yellow Pages are going or have gone the way of the Dodo bird?

And on a personal note, I too miss the 2 hour, 2 Martini lunches. It sure made the afternoon go fast!
