In the September 3rd Vancouver Sun, wine critic Anthony Gismondi, agrees
that BC Wines are overpriced because of economic conditions. The truth of the matter is that quality wine at reasonable prices is available in every super market and Costco outlet in Washington State just a short drive from Metro Vancouver's 2 million residents.
Bellingham's Fred Meyer grocery store next to I5 exit 258 has an good selection of mid priced red and white wines at $20 - $30 and frequently has them on sale for up to 50 per cent off.
It angers me to see wine being sold at prices that the consumer is willing to pay versus the prices being offered by our state operated monoply aka Liquor Distribution Branch.
The solution to having quality wines sold at cheaper prices is to have free and open competition.

I read with interest that Canadians are now opting for cheaper wines versus the more expensive wines. Successful marketers know that consumers do not buy price but do buy value.
If we perceive the value of the wine not worthy of the price being asked then the vintiner has only two options. Reduce the price and let the increased volume make up for the reduced margins or reduce the cost of production and pass these cost savings on to the consumer thereby offering a better value proposition.
